The Jonas Clark Scholarship is awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated the potential to challenge convention and change the world.Named after our founder, Jonas Clark, who wanted to champion an educational model that would produce free-thinking and courageous students and global citizens.Clark University is a private research university in Worcester, Massachusetts. Established in 1887 with a large endowment from its namesake, Jonas Gilman Clark, a renowned businessman, Clark was one of the first modern research universities in the United States.Originally a purely graduate institution, Clark University’s first undergraduates entered in 1902, and women first enrolled in 1942.The university now offers 46 majors, minors, and concentrations in the humanities, social sciences, science, and engineering, and allows students to design technical majors and compete in pre-professional programs.Known for its programs in psychology, geography, physics, biology, and entrepreneurship, Clark University is a member of the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts, which helps students register each other for courses at other regional institutions such as Worcester Polytechnic attend Institute and the College of the Holy Cross.As a liberal arts-based research university, however, Clark University provides important research opportunities for its students, particularly undergraduate students through LEEP project funding, but is also respected for its environment as the second-smallest university ranked among the top 66 national universities. Eligible Jonas Clark Scholarship recipients will receive a four-year award of $56,000 ($14,000 per year) regardless of their family’s financial needs, provided the student meets annual continuation requirements.
Jonas Clark Scholarship Requirements
Your eligibility for the Jonas Clark Scholarship is based on your academic achievement (as identified in your application for admission), not the needs of your family. However, international students who may qualify for scholarships are still expected to be able to cover a significant percentage of the cost of their education.
